Calice al Cornoviglio, located in Liguria just west of the border with Tuscany and the Lunigiana, is near the Alta via dei Monti Liguri, the high trail that follows the peaks of the Ligurian mountains. The attractions are mostly centered around the Doria-Malaspina medieval castle

The castle was mentioned in a 1033 document. It is 600 meters above sea level, and guards the Val di Vara. There is a museum inside which houses the permanent exhibition of David Beghé, a noted painter born in Calice al Cornoviglio on the third of May, 1854.
This is bee keeping country. There's also a historic bee-keeping museum in the Castle. If you go to the uphill town of Santa Maria, you can buy honey from these parts.
Calice is near La Spezia and not very far from the Cinque Terre, so the hotel search in the box to the right will be a widely spaced one.

If you approach the town from the Lunigiana as we did, you'll see the following view in the afternoon. If you get there in the morning, the scene might be shown in better light.

Calice al Cornoviglio is home to the Doria-Malaspina medieval castle, which now offers a couple of museums and the Parco Naturale Regionale di Montemarcello-Magra Visitor center, which mentions a seasonal guest house inside the castle.
